The Matthies twins have had a couple busy weeks… and that makes for one tired momma too!
Doctors appointments. Volleyball game for Ella. Iowa/ISU football game party. ISU football game in Ames. Massages. Finishing house updates. On and on.....
Last week we had our MFM appointment that did growth, TTTS, and heart echo of baby B. All things look good with the heart according to the sonographer. She wasn’t able to get one view because Baby B did a few flips and got in a bad position for her, so she will try again this week for that last image. The growth scan showed Baby B measured 1 pound 1 ounce; Baby A measured 15 ounces. So only a few ounces difference which she was not concerned with. YAH! Their gestational ages were 22w1d and 21w4d. All good news!
Yesterday I had a regular OB appointment. The doctor went through what to tentatively plan for the next couple weeks. This Thursday the 20th, MFM appointment for Baby A heart echo, next Thursday the 27th, a TTTS scan and consult with the MFM doctor, and Monday, October 1st my last OB appointment at the clinic. The doctor said to plan on moving inpatient in the next 1-3 weeks and to be thinking of things to keep myself busy and occupied. I have been saving a few books and a bible study to do while “vacationing” and I might try to learn a foreign language or possibly a new craft… knitting or something… who knows??? Be prepared at Christmas, everyone might be getting scarfs and pot holders and I’ll be speaking spanish!! He also said to plan on getting my first steroid injection next Thursday at my MFM appointment to help with the twins’ lung development. Once at the hospital I will be seen on a regular basis with the OB doctors that are making rounds and the MFM doctors will come to the hospital as well.
Also at the OB appointment yesterday the doctor actually measured my tummy. We are currently 23 weeks 2 days with twins and I measured 28 weeks with a singleton. I feel pretty good about that and the twins are growing like crazy too!! The doctor did mention that the last set of Mono Mono twins the Unity Point OB delivered was over two years ago! Two years!! Wow. I told the Dr that no matter who is delivering the twins... I HAVE to have a picture of their cords!! I want to see that beautiful mess! That beautiful, scary, nerve-wracking, life-giving mess!
As for trying to prep for the babies, that is in full swing now. I know the risk is still their of something happening but we are preparing to bring home two little miracles the end of this year! So, I finally bought a few items and it was really exciting to get them home!! A rock and play that looks super comfy and I wish they made in adult size!! A bouncer looking thing, and a Twin Z Pillow…. seriously super cute- a cozy boppy for two! This weekend we have our niece's’ baby shower and I can’t wait!! I’m super excited for her and I want to see all the stuff she gets.
We are still working hard around the house. John is framing up the ceiling in our front room and repairing some water damage from the crazy storms we had earlier this year. By the time the twins get here we will have repainted almost every inch of this house and the new carpet will be installed as well. EEEKKK, So exciting!!!
Thank you all for the prayers, text messages, and calls! I know God has this all under control and I am just along for the ride. It’s like He did this intentionally…. Like He knew that I am an obsessive planner so he gave me a pregnancy that is the farthest thing from letting me do just that. A dear friend of mine posted about their tough journey with their adoption and how they are being tested by turning from the path of planning to the path of peace! He did not design us to figure out the future, that is beyond our capabilities. And honestly, we would plan something that we think would be amazing, but God has something even better in store for us! BETTER PEOPLE! Think about that!
The twins appreciate all the prayers being sent their way. As they continue on growing and defying odds, please also pray for my friends as they try to complete their family with adopting their son.
You all are amazing people and we are so blessed to have you all in our lives!
